Listening is the basis of language communication and one of the main ways to learn a language.Adequate input is the premise of output and listening skills play a decisive role in improving students' overall English language ability.However,many problems exist in the actual process of English listening teaching,this paper tries to apply multmodal teaching method in junior middle school English listening teaching,designed to reduce the difficulty of understand the listening material and the simple modal is more interesting,more visual modal listening mode,so that the students through various channels to obtain information and improve their listening comprehension level.The theoretical basis of this paper is systemic-functional linguistics and cognitive psychology.Systemic-functional linguistics emphasizes the use of auditory,tactile,visual and other senses to communicate with the help of various symbols such as language,sound,image and movement.Various symbols act on the sensory system to give students multi-dimensional sensory stimulation and stimulate their listening interest.Cognitive psychology emphasizes that cognitive process is the process of encoding,storing and extracting information.Therefore,the multi-modal English listening teaching methods under the guidance of these two theories are of guiding significance to the improvement of students' English listening level.This paper aims to answer the following two research questions.First,how does the multi-modal teaching method affect students' listening comprehension?Secondly,how does multi-modal teaching method affect students' interest and confidence in English listening?The research object of this paper is two classes of junior one,in which the experimental class and the control class have the same number of students,and the English level of the two classes is similar.The experimental class adopts the multi-mode listening teaching,while the control class adopts the traditional listening teaching mode.In the process of experiment,the methods of pre-and post-test,questionnaire survey and interview were used.It is found that the application of multi-mode teaching mode in the listening teaching of'junior high school English can stimulate students' interest in learning,eliminate their psychological barriers in listening to English,and promote their enthusiasm,initiative and participation in learning English listening.Most students can actively learn English listening by various modern technical means,which enhances their confidence and improves their English listening scores.
