English reading plays a very important role in students' English learning,which is a main channel to obtain information in English learning.It can improve the students' language skills and communicative competence.Up to now,English has become a universal language.Senior high school students must improve the ability of obtaining information quickly and deal with information to meet the needs of new information age.Therefore,English reading teaching plays an important role in senior high school English language teaching.How to teach English more effectively has attracted senior high school English teachers' attention.The New National English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School published in2017 demands that students should use language skills to acquire,sort out and integrate language and cultural knowledge in the process of solving problems based on different kinds of discourse and a specific context.Students can have a deep understanding of language,attach importance to the appreciation of discourse,compare and explore cultural connotations and use learning strategies to improve the effect of understanding and expression.In the traditional English reading teaching,teachers just attach importance to the cultivation and accumulation of the English language knowledge,giving more time to the explanation of grammar,words and sentence structures.Students know very little about the discourse.It is obvious that this kind of teaching method cannot authentically help the students to improve reading comprehension ability.So the discourse analysis model has been a more scientific and effective teaching model in senior high school English reading teaching,which can make students learn to understand the reading passage on the whole in order to enrich the students' cultural knowledge and improve the students' reading comprehension competence gradually.The thesis aims to testify that the application of discourse analysis teaching model to senior high school English reading classes can help the students to master reading strategies and make the students get higher grades in the English reading tests so as to promote the students to improve their reading comprehension ability.The author adapts a questionnaire about the application of discourse analysis teaching model to senior high school Englishreading classes,conducts two questionnaires before and after the experiment and carries out the discourse analysis teaching model in the experimental class for one term.Results of questionnaires show that students learn to use reading strategies and the scores of reading tests show that the mean value in the experimental class is 6.477 points higher than control class which verifies that the discourse analysis teaching model can really help the students to master reading strategies,make the students gain higher scores in English reading tests and improve their reading comprehension competence.Therefore,we can explore a more efficient English reading teaching model for senior high school students.
