The current senior high school entrance examination and college entrance examination only examine students' English knowledge level from three aspects: listening, reading and writing. It makes English teaching only focus on grammar, reading and listening training for students, while ignoring the effective oral ability training. The general goal of the English course in compulsory education is to guide students develop a preliminary comprehensive language ability through English learning, that is,to comprehensively cultivate students' language skills from four aspects: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Therefore, how to cultivate students' oral ability immediately becomes an issue that English teachers and students must pay attention to.In daily teaching, most teachers have ever asked students to recite texts. And almost all students memorize them mechanically. This way cannot substantially help the students' oral ability.Besides it increases the student's learning burden. Therefore, this paper attempts to explore the influence of oral retelling based on mind mapping on junior high school students' oral English competence. In this study which lasts over three months, students from class16 of Xinglonghu Middle School in Yongchuan District of Chongqing City were selected as the research object with questionnaire method, testing method and experimental teaching method to explore the following questions:1.After the experimental study, will students have a positive understanding and attitudes towards mind maps, retelling, and mind-mapping oriented retelling methods, and then be interested in oral communication in English?2.Can applying mind maps to text retelling training help students better understand students' understanding of oral rehearsal content to improve the depth of content expressed by students during verbal communication.3.Will applying the mind map to the text retelling training effectively improve the students' speaking ability? If so,what aspects have been improved? After analyzing and comparing the questionnaires and the date of students' oral test before and after experiment, the result can be concluded as follows:1.Text retelling training based on mind map changes students' attitude towards text retelling. After the experiment, the students' willingness to retell the text and use the spoken language to communicate is deepened.2.The retelling method based on mind map can help students grasp the content of the article more quickly and effectively. The process of constructing the map is the process of grasping the frame and details of the text.At the same time, the mind map provides a relatively complete memory framework for students.Students can effectively grasp the content of the article according to the mind map when retelling the text.3.After the experiment, the mind map clears the memory burden of students when they mechanically reciting the text,so during their retelling, the students can pay more attention to the accuracy and fluency of the oral expression, thus retelling training based on mind maps can improve the students' text retelling ability and verbal ability.4.During the system training of text retelling based on mind maps, the teacher has guided the students to pay attention to the the accuracy of the pronunciation of the words and the fluency of the retelling. Therefore, after a period of training, the pronunciation of the words is more accurate and smoother when the students speak orally.
