Ngugi Wa Thiong'o,a forerunner of African writers, published a 766 pages book Wizard of the Crow in 2006 with the English version translated from Gikuyu by the author himself. In my point of view, this political writing has a typical magical realistic feature that represents the reality of the corruptive government of the Moi era in Kenya.Magical realism writings are mostly under the model of representing a certain reality in history at a certain place or representing a certain unbelievable belief in a given culture or country.Ngugi represents several Kenyan realities in his text: Moi's de facto one-party rule, people's rebellion, and globalization and oppression. The second “Ruler” in the text embodies the second president in Kenya while the “Voice of People” implies the Mau Mau Uprising in Kenyan history, and the Aburiria's dependency on the Global Bank indicates the globalization and oppression from the west.Ngugi represents the Kenyan politics through three magical ways: the western religions, the eastern mysticism, and the indigenous African beliefs. There are many modified biblical characters that are antitypes of the western religious figures. The protagonist is showing a Buddhist philosophy of life. And the witchcraft is a real belief, rather than superstition,to the Gikuyu people.By the combination of these three factors,Ngugi successfully satires the Kenyan government and its dependency on the central power of the west. This paper tries to find out Ngugi's representation mechanism of magical realism—textualization, territorialization of the imaginary, and decentering the privileged center.Ngugi textualizes the oral stories and makes the imaginary real.By the narration of stories, the imaginary from the west, the east and the local Africa are territorialized together.Thereafter Ngugi arrives at his ultimate political stance—decentering the central west. The purpose Ngugi uses magical realism to satire his motherland's government and leadership is to propose a new hope to his nation—a hope for Kenya to get rid of the hegemony of the privileged center. In the postcolonial context,it is a voice of all ex-centric countries.By the multi layers of analysis, this paper is going to unveil the political reality of the Aburiria country(fictional name of Kenya),and Ngugi's political stance on anti-colonialization.
