The source text is excerpted from the first four parts of the Chapter Three of Essential Concepts in Sociology written by Anthony Giddens. It explains the four sociological concepts of alienation, environment, industrialization and migration. The social science text is featured with preciseness and objectivity. In the translation report, the translator reviewed the problems and summed up the experience in the translation process. The report consists of task description, process description, case analysis and summary. The first part is an introduction to the source text, its authors and characteristics;the second part is an overall description of the translation process, including preparation for translation, the selection of translation strategies and assistant tools and the difficulties;the third part is the main body of the report, including three aspects of vocabulary, syntax and discourse. Each case reflects the process of modifying and perfecting the translation by repeated deliberation and following teacher 's advice. The fourth part is the translation practice summary,in which the author concludes the experiences in the process of translation and recognizes that translators should develop their own translation skills in a certain field so as to enhance translators' competitiveness. In short, translation is a work that can train people's body and mind.Translators not only need to constantly improve their English and Chinese expression skills, but also need to polish their own translations with perseverance and patience.Only in this way can we make progress and gain something on the road of translation.
