This is a report based on science fiction——All Clear,written by Connie Willis,who is an American science fiction and fantasy writer.The 10^th,11^th and 12^th chapter of the book were chosen by the author of the report to translate and analyze.This book has no Chinese version yet.The whole translation process is divided into three phases,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation revision.Before translation,the author skimmed the source text and searched for related information and translation theories.In the translation process,the translator completed the translation task with the help of Computer Aided Translation?CAT?.Besides,the author's communication and cooperation with other translators has greatly improved the working efficiency of the whole team.After completing the translation project,quality control is imperative.After re-reading,modifying and polishing the translation repeatedly,the translator finally got the final draft.This report mainly discusses the text features of All Clear and how to make translation choices based on those features.The genre of the source text is science fiction and the theme is time travel.The whole story is exciting and remarkable.Generally speaking,long and complex sentences are not frequently used in the text.Instead,the language style of the text tends to be simple and vivid.The author of the original text is successful in character description,which is a distinct feature of the text.The brilliant character description not only creates plentiful figures with distinct personalities,but also plays an important role in promoting the development of the plots.The main methods applied in character portrayal are the description of dialogue,psychology,movement and appearance,among which dialogue description is particularly prominent.In order to make the language more expressive and lively,the author of the book often uses figures of speech.Based on those features,the translator will discuss the translation choices combined with specific cases.In terms of dialogue and psychological descriptions,the translator will adopt domestication as the main translation strategy by localizing the language style to cater to the target readers'reading habits.As for movement description,realizing the parataxis of Chinese,the translator uses multiple cohesive devices to bring out a coherent translation.In the translation of appearance description,the translator usually takes domestication as the strategy to present the figures vividly and directly.As for the translation of figures of speech,the translator adopts flexible translation strategies with the aim of enhancing the effect of the expression.Character description is an important part in a great number of novels,and the translator hopes that her experience in the project is conducive to the translation of similar text in the future.
