Under the guidance of the theory of discourse analysis,the author of this thesis,carries out some training of reading strategies for senior high school students with English learning difficulty,aiming at developing their reading abilities,that is,enhancing their learning ability and improving their English scores.The thesis attempts to answer the following questions:(1)What changes will take place in students'reading comprehension score after the application of reading strategies to the students with English learning difficulty'?(2)Which kind of strategies do the students with English learning difficulties in high schools accept better?(3)What different effects will occur to students with English learning difficulty in comparison with those who are better?In order to answer the above-mentioned questions,the author conducted a three-month empirical study on students with English learning difficulty in senior three at Fuzhou Jinshan Secondary School by means of literature,questionnaires,interviews and data analysis.The author divided the students from one class into two groups,one with high scores,and the other with low scores.With the help of SPSS 16.0 software,the author made a comprehensive analysis of the data collected from the questionnaires,tests as well as interviews.The research findings indicate that:the frequency of using reading strategies in the group of students with low scores is low.However,after they receive the training of reading strategies based on the discourse analysis,they learn a little bit about using strategies.On the contrary,the frequency of using reading strategies in the group of students with high scores is higher than that in the group of students with low scores.In addition,both their reading comprehension ability and their English reading scores have improved after they receive the training of reading strategies.What's more,the gap between the two groups in terms of their reading comprehension ability and post-test reading scores has become larger.The study has proved that the application of the reading strategies based on discourse analysis can slightly help senior high students with English learning difficulty but effectively help those who are better improve their ability in using reading strategies and their academic performances,thus providing some references for teachers and students of the same type in similar secondary schools.
