Intercultural communication is more and more frequent in recent years, and the cultivation of intercultural communication competence attracts more and more people's attention. The way to improving students' communicative competence does not only lie in the cultivation of their language ability but also in their pragmatic competence. In real life, the students' pragmatic ability is not equal to their language ability, and there might appear awkward situations in the communication process.Students' pragmatic knowledge comes mainly from their teaching materials,so the evaluation of the distribution of pragmatic knowledge in the teaching materialss is particularly important, and speech acts,as the core part of pragmatic knowledge, should receive wide attention from scholars. In view of this,to evaluate speech acts involved in the teaching materials, the present study puts Project English textbooks for junior high schools as the research object, uses the static text analysis method and the means of questionnair, and regards speech act theory put forward by John Searle(1969)as the theoretical basis, aiming at finding out speech acts involved in the learning materials, the distributional features of the speech acts, and whether students'command of such knowledge is influenced by the features. The study shows that:1)there are 65 kinds of speech acts involved in English textbooks, but the textbooks are still short of some speech acts commonly used in daily life;2)it concerns five kinds of speech acts put forward by Searle, with the expressive speech acts occupying a more prominent role in the textbooks, and the declarative speech acts taking the least part;3)the types of speech acts involved in the textbooks and the difficulty of the way to express certain speech act do not increase with the level of learning, the distribution of which is more or less random;4)the distributional features of the way to express certain speech acts involved in the textbook influence the students'grasp of speech acts;5)The context in the learning materials to express certain speech acts are monotonous.Through the evaluation and analysis of the speech acts of the textbooks, the author obtains some enlightenment on the compilation and teaching of textbooks, and proposes some corresponding suggestions. This research has the theoretical significance of providing some reference for teaching materials, and is of practical value for teachers' flexible use of teaching material.
