Maxine Hong Kingston is one of the most prestigious Chinese American female writers in contemporary times,with autobiographical novel The Woman Warrior,China Men,novel Tripmaster Monkey,The Fifth Book of Peace,Veteran of War,Veterans of Peace.In 1976,Kingston published the memoir-style autobiographical novel The Women Warrior.Kingston used collage techniques to connect the stories told by her mother and her childhood life experience in America.The publication of The Woman Warrior won Kingston popularity among American readers.In 1976,this book was granted with the National Book Critic Circle Award and also won the title of TIME magazine ' s top nonfiction books of the 1970 s.Through close reading,this research categorizes Chinese image into three types as the three facets of prism.The first chapter analyzes the female image using the feminism theories to explain Kingston's cross-gender writing strategy;the second chapter discussed the Ghost image in the text and traced the prototypes of ghosts in Chinese and American culture;the third chapter took advantage of Homi Bhabha ' s multiculturalism theory and by discussing the image of Chinese neighborhood reveals Kingston's cross-boundary writing strategy.Finally the paper came to the conclusion that,as a Chinese American female writer,what is Chinese American woman's living reality and what survival strategies have been employed by Kingston in the White society.
