Sergei Prokofiev(1891-1953)is a great pianist,composer of Soviet Union in the first part of the 20 th century,and is also one of the pioneers of music in the 20 th century.In his whole life,more than one hundred and thirty works were composed by him covering almost all music genres.His works permeated youthful and endless power,fresh grotesque melody and distinctive harmony sonority,revealing a unique style,which establishes his significant status in the area of 20 th century musical composition and also stands for an orientation for the development of musical art.Harmony,as the core of Prokofiev's music creation,fully demonstrates his personality and characteristics.On the basis of predecessors' work,this paper,taking two Violin Concertos—“Violin Concerto No.1 in D Major”and“Violin Concerto No.2in g Minor”as examples,will make a research on all elements of the music ontology through the combination of relevant theories and the two works.The main aim of the paper is to analyse the harmony traits,which reveals a series of matters including the manner of tonal expansion,the personalization of pitch system,the featrue of tonal layout and chord structure.
