| Content in the modern history of China,the May 4th New Culture Movement is a major turning point of the new and old cultural cognition and the alternation of new and old morals.It injected fresh blood into the dark old China with an uncertain future.For the advocates of this movement,Hu Shi,they brought the dawn to the country in simple and understandable words,which promoted the fundamental change of politics,economy,ideology and culture in modern Chinese society.As the mainstream of the times,with New Youth as the camp and Peking University as the front,the young students' world outlook,outlook on life and values were guided unprecedentedly.However,due to the wide scope of the campaign,involving a wide range of areas,and affecting the whole country,it shows the drawbacks of its extreme.In particular,Chen Duxiu's propositions of "wholly westernizing" and "overthrowing Confucian stores" have directly questioned,subverted and absolutely excluded the traditional culture of China for more than 2000 years.It is believed that as long as the new ideas and new ways of learning from the West are correct and advanced,China's inherent culture is backward,dross and wrong.In view of the extreme nature of the "New Culture School",In the late May 4th Movement,a group emerged,which took cultural conservatism as the core and western new humanism as the learning category,and on the basis of retaining the essence of traditional culture,melted the advanced western thoughts.They are the "Xueheng School" intellectuals led by Wu Mi,Hu Xianji and Mei Guangdi.Among them,Wu Mi,the representative,insisted on and believed in the excellence of Chinese civilization all his life,learned and absorbed the essence of Western new humanism,and formed a unique cultural concept.This paper analyses how Wu Mi's cultural concept sprouted and developed in the trend of the spread of Western learning to the East under the specific circumstances of the times,its content and connotation,and its status,value and role at that time. |
