With the deepening education reform and the promulgation of the Senior High School English Curriculum Standard,our education is changing in terms of concepts,methods and goals.The new curriculum standard proposes a new concept of language learning: a concept that points to the core quality of discipline and learning method such as self-learning,cooperative learning and inquiry learning.Teachers are supposed to design comprehensive,relevant and practical English learning activities.The new curriculum standard stresses the importance of effective learning and pays more attention to the flexibility of teaching method and the improvement of learning efficiency.It puts forwards higher demands on students' comprehensive ability and same high demands on teachers.Heterogeneous class meets the requirements of new curriculum standard.In order to improve the efficiency of English teaching,the paper makes a study of this new teaching mode.The author compares the reading and grammar classes between expert and novice English teachers in senior high school from the perspective of heterogeneous class and tries to provide feasible suggestions for English teaching.So,the research questions of this study are:1)What are the similarities and differences between the two teachers in their instructional designs?2)What are the similarities and differences between the two teachers in their teaching implementations?3)What are the similarities and differences between the two teachers in their teaching evaluations?This study adopts such research methods as literature review,classroom observation,case analysis and interview.The author compares the classes between expert and novice English teachers from three aspects.Through the comparative analysis from these three aspects,the author finds the similarities and differences in instructional design including teaching objectives,teaching subjects and teaching methods,teaching implementation including the realization of teaching objectives,the use of multimedia and the teachers' classroom language and the teaching effect.Finally,the author gives six practical suggestions in senior high school English teaching.
