Based on Krashen's Theory of Affective Filter Hypothesis and Humanistic Psychology, the author of this thesis made a study of the influence of teachers'questioning on their students' anxiety in class by means of questionnaire, interview and class observation, taking 196 senior high school students and their 6 English teachers from Pingtan NO.1 Middle School as the objects. The research questions include how students would feel about their teachers'questioning, and how teachers' types of questions, their ways of raising questions, their feedback and the wait time would affect students'anxiety. The findings from the research can be summarized as follows:1)Senior high school students have moderately high anxiety in the process of teachers'questioning;2)Most teachers choose types of questions such as closed questions and display questions in class. However, students prefer types of open and referential questions;3)Teachers' ways of raising questions are too simple, among which the way of roll call at random frequently used can most easily cause students'anxiety in class easily;4)When raising questions, teachers do not provide their students with enough wait time to answer questions, thus causing their students to become considerably anxious;5)Teachers do give their students positive feedback, but the feedback is too general and simple. In addition,teachers'"no-feedback" and "passive feedback" can also cause students' anxiety in class, thus making their students' enthusiasm for voluntary responses wane. The results have shown that although teachers often ask questions in class, those questions do not have desirable effects on students'learning. What's more,it has been proved that teachers'questioning is one of the important classroom factors that cause students' anxiety in class. In terms of theory, this study can provide some data and theoretical information for the research on the correlation between teachers' questioning and students' anxiety in class. From the perspective of practice, this study can provide teachers with some references and guidance in the further improvement of their teaching methods and ways of raising questions so as to optimize their teaching efficiency.
