With the core literacy of English subject proposed in our country,critical thinking skills,as the key elements in talent cultivation,attract more and more attention.In order to meet the requirements of the core literacy of English subject,this thesis explores the components of English reading-writing critical thinking skills for compulsory education learners,which are based on essential critical thinking models,Bloom and Anderson's taxonomy of educational objectives,the relationship between thinking and language,as well as the input and output theories in second language acquisition.Besides,this thesis uses literature analysis and questionnaire as main research methods.By integrating and complementing existing critical thinking scales,this thesis aims at describing specific requirements of English reading-writing critical thinking skills for compulsory education learners and developing an English reading-writing critical thinking skills scale so as to provide a reference for Chinese compulsory education in the cultivation of English reading-writing critical thinking skills.The study constructs a "Three-Rank-Two-Level" English reading-writing critical thinking skills scale for compulsory education learners."Three-Rank" refers to the description indexes,including "understanding and summarizing","analyzing and inferring","evaluating and creating"."Two-Level" refers to primary and secondary levels,which specifically refers to upper grade in primary schools and the second year of secondary schools.Under the guidance of this framework,the thesis collects,translates,integrates,complements and ranks descriptors from existing scales and documents to construct the initial scale.It was calibrated by way of a questionnaire and interviews among experienced primary and secondary English teachers and some experts in this area.After being modified according to the survey results,a more efficient scale of English reading-writing critical thinking skills for compulsory education learners is formed.The study creatively explores language ability scales for English learners in China,which not only benefits the developing of a unified language scale for critical thinking skills in China,but guides the teaching practices for compulsory education teachers.
