Before independence,Indian women were basically accessories of husbands or families.Their social status was extremely low,and it was difficult to guarantee their personal freedom and survival rights, not to mention the educational rights. Therefore, women's education in India has long been at a low level. After independence, with the development of the Indian economy and the increasing attention of the international community to women's rights, the government has gradually realized the important role that women play in social and economic life.If the country wants to achieve further development,it must pay attention to women's problems.Undoubtedly, education is the most effective ways to improve the status of women and give full play to women's potential. In the following decades,Indian women's education entered the fast lane, from scratch, from sprouting to development, gradually becoming a scale and achieving remarkable results. This paper is divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction. It summarizes domestic and international academic literature about Indian women's education, points out the current research status and shortcomings.Based on these, the paper probes into the research significance, purpose and research methods. The second part reviews the basic situation of Indian women's education during the colonial period. The third part makes comments on the laws, regulations, educational policies and measures in Indian women's education.Though multi-dimensional data and data comparison, the paper gives an objective analysis of the actual development and achievement made in women's education.Besides,it makes vertical comparison of developments for women's education progress in different periods before and after independence. The fourth part focuses on the existing problems and causes of women's education in India. It makes detailed analysis of the factors restricting the development of women's education in India. The last part is the conclusion. It summarizes the full text, points out the shortcomings in this study, and puts forward some viewpoints and development suggestions. The study found that: First, women's education is an indispensable part of education for all,and it is related to the sustainable development of the country's society and economy. To implement women's education,we must have policy support at the national level and strong input from the government and society. At the same time, only sound laws and regulations are not enough. It is necessary to increase enforcement and supervision, and even necessary enforcement measures;Second, education development is positively related to economic development. In the early stage of women's education development, priority should be given to the implementation of relatively low-level primary education, but a gradual transition should be established to establish a complete female education system.Third, the tortuous course of the development of Indian women's education for decades,no matter their experience or not,can be used as a reference for other countries with similar national conditions, especially South Asian countries,to avoid misunderstanding in development.
