As time goes by,English has become a very important international language.Meanwhile,New Curriculum Standard has raised higher requirements for English vocabulary level and application ability in senior high school.However,the results of vocabulary teaching is not as satisfying as expected.Traditional teaching methods often pay much emphasis on grammar rather than vocabulary.Some teachers even cut down the process of vocabulary teaching and think students should learn vocabulary on their own.This research applies lexical chunk theory to English vocabulary teaching of high school in order to improve the present time-consuming and inefficient situation and provide a new perspective for English vocabulary teaching in senior high school.Recently,some linguists have founded that 90% of natural utterances are achieved by lexical chunks(Yang Yuchen,1991).Based on the theory of chunking on memory and Nattinger&DeCarrico's prefabricated lexical chunk theory,the experimental class were taught under the guidance of lexical chunks purposely and consciously.Students' cognition degree of lexical chunks and their vocabulary learning concepts and strategies,vocabulary level and lexical chunk ability can be known compared from pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire,pre-test and post-test,respectively.At the same time,SPSS software was used to analyze data from questionnaires and tests,and then discuss the following three questions: 1.How to effectively apply lexical chunk approach to English vocabulary teaching in senior high school? 2.Can the students' vocabulary learning concepts and strategies,lexical chunk ability be improved based on lexical chunk approach? 3.What influences does lexical chunk approach have on students' vocabulary learning in senior high school?The research finds that lexical chunk approach can promote English vocabulary learning concepts and strategies in high school.It also can enhance the effectiveness of vocabulary memory,ease memory burden,enlarge vocabulary level and strengthen their lexical chunk ability.In addition,it has positive influence on vocabulary learning.Lastly,the study put forwards some practical teaching methods and two concrete teaching cases on how to apply lexical chunk approach to vocabulary teaching in high school,aiming to provide references for English vocabulary teaching in less developed areas like Guizhou.
