Vocational college students have many obstacles in English language learning due to their distinctive characteristics and the current pessimistic situation of English teaching.Based on the systematic inquiry of different types of English learning motivation, this study designs intervention strategies to stimulate and maintain students' motivation to help improve their English learning.Through the questionnaire survey, the study finds that there are mainly six types of motivation among vocational college students: the motivation of internal reasons(interests, sense of responsibility),individual development, learning environment,self-realization,achievement and study abroad. The internal reasons, individual development, and learning environment motivations are of the three main types among vocational college students.Based on questionnaire survey and literature review, this study designs the EICC motivational intervention strategies to stimulate learners' English learning motivation from the following four aspects: learning environment(E),internal reasons(I),career development(C)and self-confidence(C).The result shows that their intensity of motivation, their attitudes towards English learning, and their English learning aspirations are significantly improved.Their attitudes towards English teachers and English courses are much higher than pre-intervention,which indicates that the motivation intervention strategies are effective.
