A Study Of Xu Yongyi In Haiyan

Haiyan is located in the Hangjiahu Plain,subordinate to Jiaxing Prefecture,Zhejiang Province,and it is known as the “land of plenty”.There are many aristocratic families in the history,and the family of Xu Yongyi is one of them.The Xu family of Haiyan rising in the Southern Song Dynasty and experienced the first peak of development in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty,and then the family declined gradually.In the modern times,there are four major families of Xu,Zhu,He,and Feng in Haiyan,which are called “Four Respected Family” by local residents,and“Xu” is the Xu Yongyi Family as mentioned before,The status of his family rose up because of the imperial examination system,but with the abolition of the imperial examination system and the demise of the Qing government,the Xu family was soon re-inundated in the vast historical torrent.The first part of the article is mainly about the lineage changes of Xu Yongyi’s ancestors,and on this basis,it discusses the changes and development of Xu family in Haiyan.The second part of the article explores their imperial examination career path and its impact on family focused on Xu Huaiting and Xu Yongyi and so on.The third part analyses the process that Xu Yongyi family in turn make their families become stronger and actively participate in local social activities after they get success in imperial examination career.The last part focuses on the inheritance of the family tradition by the descendants in Haiyan,and the development and changes of Xu family in the future,as well as the problems they confront.
