History became a discipline in the 19 th century.Influenced by the great success of the natural sciences for centuries,British historian Buckle tried to invoke research methods of natural science to establish a historical science similar to natural science. In his unfinished masterpiece The History of England Civilization,he reviewed the process of the formation of skepticism, religious tolerance and political freedom in England civilization from the 16 th to the 18 th centuries. He believed that England civilization is perfect in human civilization. He also explored the development model of human civilizations and divided it into European Civilization that mainly played the role of spiritual laws and non-European Civilization that mainly played the role of natural laws. The task of history is to discover the laws of history, and it is necessary to borrow the research results of natural sciences and positive research methods to conduct the comprehensive historical research and to deal with very complicated historical phenomena. Therefore,it is necessary to adopt the paradigm of civilization history to meet the requirements of this research. While Buckle's general study is heavily criticized by Western Professional historian, and he denies that the role of religion and morality in history is also controversial.Buckle has won a large number of readers in the ordinary Western people and the East Asian world, and has also had an effect on the development of East Asian historiography.Buckle's broadly historical perspective and his emphasis on the function of history are still worthy of emulation historical studies today.
