Research On New Orientalism Of Ancient Costume

This paper reflects and explores from the standard of the Oriental culture.Through analyzing the specific expression of the creative idea of the New orientalism,it makes a summary and conception of ancient costume in terms of inheriting traditional culture,learning from popular aesthetics and applying modern design techniques.At the present,the New orientalism is just limited to building Chinese images with Oriental connotation,so this paper mainly analyzes and discusses Chinese ancient costume in movies and TV series(hereinafter referred to as ancient costume).This paper takes the ancient costume with a tinge of New orientalism as research object in The Dream of Red Mansions(2010),Empresses in the Palace,Nirvana in Fire,Nothing Gold Can Stay and Story of Yanxi Palace.Applying semiotics,aesthetics of reception,psychology(psychology of fashion,color and cognition)and other theories,to analyzes the positive effects of this artistic view on ancient costume and puts forward reasonable suggestions on the design principles of ancient costume through analyzing their characteristics and visual effect.Chapter One analyzes the important role of ancient costume and lays a foundation for the case analysis of New orientalism by summarizing and analyzing the attributes and characteristics of the ancient costume.Chapter Two explains the cultural background under which the New orientalism was formed through interpreting the origin and meaning of orientalism,and analyzes the concept of New orientalism with the ancient costume designed by Ye Jintian as examples.Chapter Three starts with shape and structure,color,fabric and pattern that compose ancient costume.Making case analysis of the positive role that New orientalism plays in ancient costume through combing Chinese culture and western culture.Analyzing how to implement New orientalism in ancient costume through taking traditional culture and popular aesthetics as reference.Chapter Four analyzes the satisfaction of New orientalism to the basic function of ancient costume through discussing the symbolic characteristics and ideographic functions of ancient costume.Pointing out the problems and putting forward suggestions on how to improve the visual effect and artistic appeal of ancient costume.Chapter Five makes prospects on the development of ancient costume,analyzes the positive effect of New orientalism on ancient costume in terms of inheriting traditional culture.Learning and drawing lessons from popular aesthetics and applying modern design techniques and analyzing the principles and methods of ancient costume design.
