English reading is one of the basic skills in high school English teaching,and it is also the main way for people to acquire knowledge.Nowadays,scholars and instructors have been studying and focusing on improving students' reading ability.According to the requirements of English Curriculum,teachers and students should use a variety of teaching and learning resources to enrich their teaching and learning methods.These resources include: newspapers,magazines,audio-media and the internet.In addition,teachers should also abandon the traditional methods of teaching,enriching the class by using effective teaching models and organizing a variety of activities to make students become the master of the classroom,so that the English teaching becomes more abundant.Under the guidance of cognitive theory and autonomous learning theory,the writer apply 21 st Century Teens to senior high school English reading teaching,which aims to develop students' reading ability and then improve their English Scores.This study mainly discussed and solved the following four problems:1)What are the main problems of senior high school students in English reading study?2)How can the 21 st Century Teens be applied to English reading teaching effectively?3)What effects does the application of 21 st Century Teens have on students' autonomous learning?4)What effects does the application of 21 st Century Teens have on students' English reading scores?The writer used a questionnaire to survey the main problems in students' reading study before the action research.The main problems in students' reading study include: 1)Students don't evaluate themselves highly.2)Students have little interest in after-class reading.3)There is no adequate time for students to read;the reading materials are limited and their reading habits are bad.4)Students believe that after-class reading is necessary,but don't really realize the importance of the after-class reading.The action research lasted for four months.The research methods include pre-test assessment,post-test assessment,questionnaires and interviews.Students from a senior high school in Qin Huangdao city are selected as the subjects of the study.Through data collection and analysis,the researcher has found: First,compared with the pre-action research,the number of students interested in English learning increased by 20%,the number of students who were able to implement the plan increased by 38.8% and the learning environment improved.So,the application of 21 st Century Teens to senior high school English reading class can improve students' autonomous learning.Second,the average score of post-test assessment increased by 4.58 points and the number of students who made progress accounted for 66% of the total.It shows that the application of 21 st Century Teens to senior high school English reading class can improve students' English reading scores.
