Writing,as a fundamental part of language output,plays a significant role in English teaching in senior high school.However,the current situation of English writing teaching is not satisfactory,especially in suburb schools where students' English writing level is really low.The problems can be mainly divided into two aspects: one is that students fail to put what they have learned like words,sentences and grammar into use correctly and accurately;the other is that students fail to construct a coherent and logical structure in their writing.Concerning the current situation of English teaching in senior high school,many experts have been focused on the study of better English writing teaching methods,among whom Professor Wang Chuming put forward Continuation Task in 2012 as well as points out it is an effective method to improve the efficiency of foreign language learning,which is thought highly of by other experts.Based on Krashen's Input Hypothesis,Swain's Output Hypothesis,Wang Chuming's Continuity Theory and Scaffolding Theory,this thesis mainly explores whether Continuation Task can effectively improve students' English writing in senior high school,with three questions proposed as below:(1)Can Continuation Task stimulate students' interest in English writing in Senior High School?(2)Can Continuation Task promote students' development of accuracy in English writing in Senior High School?(3)Can Continuation Task promote students' development of coherence in English writing in Senior High School?Quantitative and qualitative methods are used in this thesis.The subjects in this research come from one senior high school,and they belong to two paralleled classes of Grade Two.The main experimental instruments include one pretest,one post-test and an interview.It took 17 weeks to complete the whole research.According to the current English level of the subjects,the author chose texts of proper difficulty and topics.The EC are required to finish continual writing while the CC are required to conduct writing based on a certain topic.All the data collected from this research were analyzed and discussed by SPSS.This thesis has figured out the following major findings.Firstly,Continuation Task can improve students' interest in English writing in Senior High School.With the interview made among the students in EC,students admit Continuation Task is very interesting and it can arouse their desire to express themselves creatively and actively.Secondly,contrast of the development of EC's means indicates that Continuation Task can promote students' development of accuracy and coherence in Senior High School English writing.This thesis has proved Continuation Task can promote students' development of English writing,which has a significant different to English writing teaching practice.
