A Survey Of English Writing Anxiety Of Demonstrative Senior High School Students

As one of the productive skills,writing is a demanding task for English learners and a difficult task as well,which has engaged researchers' attention.But judging by the existing literatures,studies focusing on the writing anxiety of senior high school students are few,not to mention studies concerning the writing anxiety of demonstrative senior high school students.Basing on Krashen's affective filter hypothesis and humanism theory,and with questionnaire and interview as the research instruments,the present study surveyed on 350 Grade Two senior high school students from three demonstrative senior high schools of Yulin City,attempting to answer the following three questions:(1)What is the current status of English writing anxiety encountered by demonstrative senior high school students?(2)Does any significant difference exist in demonstrative senior high school students' writing anxiety in terms of gender and academic performance?(3)What are the causes of demonstrative senior high school students' English writing anxiety?Research results indicate that(1)English writing anxiety commonly exists among demonstrative senior high school students,and is of a moderate level.(2)Demonstrative senior high school students' English writing anxiety has no significant difference in gender,but has difference in academic performance.(3)Causes of demonstrative senior high school students' writing anxiety mainly involve in confidence,interest and language foundations.Basing on the analysis and discussion of the three questions,suggestions for teachers and students on alleviating English writing anxiety are offered.Limitations of the present research and suggestions for future research are also discussed.
