Deep learning is a learning method whose purpose is to understand the knowledge and seek the meaning actively that learners can apply the existing knowledge to the new context to solve the problem through the ways such as criticism and reflection.Under the background of global basic course reform,key competence embodies the educational objectives of the 21 st century.Because of the basic characteristics of key competence,such as integration,transferability,high-order thinking and contextuality,which coincide with the concept of deep learning,more and more attention has been paid to deep learning in English teaching in China.However,there is still a lack of relevant research on the status of in-depth learning in junior high school English teaching.In this study,questionnaires,classroom observations and interviews were used to investigate the quality of deep learning of junior high school students in English classroom.This survey mainly focuses on the overall quality of junior high school students' English learning and the performance of different dimensions,the group differences of junior high school students in deep learning and the cultivation of English teachers in promoting students' deep learning in classroom teaching.This study designed a questionnaire under the guidance of Biggs' deep learning evaluation scale and multi-dimensional evaluation system of deep learning of Zhang Hao and Wu Xiujuan,and selected 200 students from different grades in a junior middle school to know their learning quality.At the same time,three English teachers of different regions and teaching ages were observed in class and interviewed under the guidance of Jason's Seven Effective Strategies for Deep Learning to understand their understanding,practice and challenges of deep learning in classroom teaching.The study found that junior high school students are in a shallow learning level as a whole.In terms of group differences,the quality of deep learning of excellent students is better than that of poor students,girls is better than that of boys,junior three students is lower than that of junior one and two students.In addition,English teachers have a superficial understanding of deep learning and need to improve their practice.At the same time,teachers all believe that the current examination-oriented education environment hinders deep learning.Moreover,most teachers reflect on their own fixed teaching model and lack of innovation,also call for the increase of systematic teacher training,discussion and other resources.In view of the above situation,this study puts forward suggestions to promote students' deep learning from the three aspect of students,teachers and society.
