The Research Of Neil Smith's Uneven Development Theory

In today' s Marxism study,the space theory gradually attracted people' s attention.And this theory has also caused a significant influence in the theoretical and practical fields.Neil Smith is a student of David Harvey who is a standard-bearer philosopher in the field.His representative uneven development theory has made important contributions to the development of space theory of Marxism and the theory of uneven development.The theory also open a way to rise up against the exploitation and unfair of space.In this paper it makes an in-depth interpretation of the theory uneven development,and this paper is divided into four parts:The first chapter describes Neil Smith' s life and academic experiences,and the origin of the uneven development theory.It introduces Neil Smith' s life experience as well as the basic academic background.In the introduction to the origin of the uneven development theory,it traces the beginning of the perspective of space in Marxism,and the contribution from Lefebvre,Foucault,David Harvey and other theorists on it.And then it clarifies the theoretical background of uneven development.The second chapter discusses the theory of production of nature.In this chapter,according to smith' s theory,discuss the historical material base of the uneven develop theory,namely the production of nature.And this process can be divide into two parts.One is the general production of nature,and the other one is the production of nature under the production relationship of capitalism.And this theory is very significance for Marxism Research.I also explain it in this chapter.The third chapter discusses the unique logic of uneven development under the conditions of capitalism.Neil Smith hope to establish systematic space theory which strictly follow Marx ' s methodology.It discusses the dialectical contradictory between differentiation and equalization in the production of environment under the capitalism production relationship.'In this chapter also discusses the production of scale and the see-saw theory which are two important theoretical discovery of uneven development.The fourth chapter discusses the applications of the uneven development in the realistic society.Then it discusses two important applications of the uneven development theory in this chapter.One is the gentrification movement with an embodied contradiction,the other one is the contradictions of imperialism.It discusses the phenomenon of uneven development in the realistic society,and show the applications.Finally,this paper discusses the influence of Neil Smith s uneven development theory in the world and practical space it has opened.It points out that smith s theory broaden the sight of uneven development theory,clarify the misunderstanding,provide a useful theoretical tool,and at last open a space of protestation.
