Weng's ? famiy in Changshu ?? is the representative of notable family and great clan-gentility in Jiangnan District during the Ming and Qing dynasties.The family achieved great success on imperial examinations as well as politics.Their influence lasted for over one hundred years and is unique among other clans.The diaries of Weng Xincun ???,Weng Tonghe ??(?),Weng Zenghan ???,Weng Binsun ???,Weng Zhishan ??? are the representatives of their family literature,and these works which written by the five generations of the family recorded the history of the late Qing dynasty.Especially the dairies of Weng Xincun,Weng Tonghe.Although the work of Weng Tonghe has been published,the research on it is focused on its value as historical document.Moreover,less research has been done on Weng Xincun's dairies.This thesis investigate these works from different aspects in which they are history of books,literature as well as culture.The thesis can be divided into three chapters.Chapter one is the comparative research on Weng Xincun,Weng Tonghe's diaries.We want to investigate the culture traits of their works and re-examine their value.Chapter two will discuss the literature of Weng's literature and the upper literature world.In this chapter,we explore the upper literature world in late Qing dynasty from three aspects which includes buying books,giving away books and donating books.Besides,we also explore the lower literature world by analyzing the works of Huang Jintai and Guan Tingfen.As the result,we can have a clear understand of the two worlds and find their different characteristics.On chapter three,we will investigate the relationship of the diary and the Weng's family.We will have a close look at their works and try to find the groupment of the whole family and their inner world.At the end,we try to find their connections with the school of Tongcheng in late Qing dynasty.
