Jeanette Winterson(1958-)is a world-renowned writer,who has been bestowed with Order of the British Empire(OBE)for her contribution in literature.However,she hasn't received plenty attention from Chinese scholars,except for her debut Oranges are not the Only Fruit.As a respected author as well as an active pioneer in feminine writing,Winterson deserves to be under highlight.The work Passion is the best received novel among all works she has published.Passion was been forged at the turning point of the author's career,which begot it special features in narrative.Scholars,domestically and abroad,mainly analyze the post-modernism and feminism in Passion,to dig out its metafictionality and female elements.The previous studies focus on its post-modern features that fit in the literature fashion.However,this paper tries to analyze three most basic dimensions in narrative,which are narrative time and narrative space,narrative voices,narrative structure,to reveal its uniqueness in narrative art.This thesis consists of five parts.The introduction part presents a brief introduction of Jeanette Winterson and her work Passion,a literature review of Passion.The first chapter deals with narrative time and narrative space.Regarding narrative time,the author,with limited narrative skills,mainly uses duration to mark out crucial plots,which can reveal the affection the hero feels about the heroin In narrative space part,the paper tries to present different personalities of the main characters,namely outwardness of the hero and inwardness of the heroin.The second chapter studies the rich resources of voices.The hero utilizes the angles of grand narrative,diary style,retrospection to weave his story.While the heroin makes use of narrative features in myth and legend as well as the present tense to deliver her story.All the above uses of different voices establish a multi-dimensional polyphony field.The third chapter concerns its narrative structure.Via the decoding of nested structures and sentences that appear again and again,this article tries to present the complexity of the meanings in the work.In the last chapter,we come to conclusions,stemming from the three chapters above,that Passion achieves subjectivity in narrative time and narrative space,multi-dimension in narrative voice and labyrinth style in narrative structure,which contribute to its completion in narrative unique.
