Research On Jiujiang Chamber Of Commerce In Late Qing Dynasty And Republic Of China Period

In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China,the Jiujiang Chamber of Commerce changed from the General Chamber of Commerce to the General Chamber of Commerce,and also it was closely related to the various political movements which were affecting Jiujiang.At the beginning of its establishment,Zheng Guangui on one hand unified Jiujiang's original business groups,guild houses and guilds under Jiujiang Commercial Association,and on the other hand Zheng Guangui coordinated the contradictions between the officials and the business men and maintained the market orders and so on.Since then,along with the composition and changes of the profession and places of birth of its supervisors,the struggle between the "Koo faction" with the main body of money,rice centered in Huizhou and Nnachang and the "anti-Koo faction" which was composed of trade associations broke out.From 1927 to 1935,with the enactment and promulgation of the relevant laws and decrees of the National Government,Jiujiang General Chamber of Commerce entered a new historical stage.During this period,in order to strengthen the party and government,the organizations of chambers of commerce such as General Chamber of Jiujiang County were incorporated into the KMT.When the chairmen and committee members took up their posts,they had to swear allegiance to the Party and the State with the Three Principles of the People.However,the Chamber of Commerce in Jiujiang County was an organization of businessmen.According to the "Chamber of Commerce Law",it not only takes on the corresponding economic functions of benefiting business and prospering business,but also acts as a role which communicates the merchants and government agencies,initiates public welfare activities and so on.After the victory of the War of Resistance against Japan,the society unions of the same career in Jiujiang County were reorganized and re-elected twice.Theresumption or formation of the Chamber of Commerce laid the organizational foundation for the reorganization and election of the Chamber of Commerce on the one hand,and on the other hand,it provides a good grass-roots organization for the realization of the chambers of commerce.With the reorganization of the Chamber of Commerce,the reorganization of commerce,the restoration of the economy,and the restoration of local order became an important task of the Jiujiang County Chamber of Commerce at that time.However,in the face of the increasingly worsening inflation and the economic collapse brought about by the former,longtime appropriation of military expenditure in the Kuomintang-controlled areas during the war of liberation,Jiujiang County Chamber of Commerce had no strategy to deal with and was coming to an end.The evolution trend and age characteristics of Jiujiang Chamber of Commerce in the late Qing Dynasty and Republic of China period have certain practical significance for us to understand the natures of chamber of commerce,the social role of chamber of commerce and the "network of power in city" in a dynamic process and etc.
