As one of the two greatest composers of late-Romantic,Mahler was in transitional period.His symphonies works are rooted in the tradition of Germany and Austria and are influenced by the striking national style.Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde,pioneering use of Chinese poetry of the Tang Dynasty as the lyrics,has a lot of resonance with oriental culture and can be regarded as the Chinese spirit under western imagination.The first part of this article explores the historical background when Mahler composed Das Lied von der Erde.The second part discusses the symphonic language of Das Lied von der Erde.The third part includes brief analysis of singing technique and exploration of the basic method of the fusion between singing and symphony.The emphases of this article are Mahler's life condition when he composed Das Lied von der Erde,singing technique(including singing articulation,vocalization and emotional control),cooperation of singing and symphony and comparative analysis of several versions.Hope this article can attract more attention from bel canto singers and researchers.
