Celeste Ng is a new generation of popular female writers in American literary circles and a rising star.As a Chinese American living in a cross-racial and cross-cultural American society since her childhood,Celeste Ng has experienced the plight of the Chinese living in the United States, and has thought deeply about their sense of existence. After years of hard work, she finally completes the famous novel Everything I Never Told You.The story revolves around an ordinary American family. It tells about the life crisis of the white mother Marilyn, the Chinese father James, their beloved daughter Lydia, the inner suffering and different life choices of the three main members of the mixed-race family. From the perspective of Sartre's existentialism, the thesis makes an in-depth analysis and study of the novel, and tries to analyze the living conditions of the Chinese American families.First,Sartre stresses that the world is absurd, the thesis makes an analysis of the life dilemma of the characters in the novel from this concept, main including racial discrimination and gender discrimination;secondly, human beings will be alienated from their heart in the absurd world.Faced with the absurdity of American real society, the three protagonists are alienated in different aspects,so they become lonely and painful;finally,Sartre points that people are free, they have the rights to make free choices, different choices will lead to different results of life.James and his wife choose to face up to the pain and absurdity and actively start a new life, while Lydia ends up her life in a negative way to seek relief. The James is the epitome of the whole American society. The novel shows that individuals in the absurd world make choices that follow their hearts after suffering and alienation vividly. These are also in line with Sartre's existentialist views: the world is absurd and life is painful.People have alienated themselves in the absurd social life;so they feel lonely, desperate, and have no sense of belonging.Sartre's existentialism also emphasizes that people are free.Only through a series of choices, plans and actions can people truly realize themselves. At the same time, positive choices can make our life more meaningful. The thesis combines Sartre's existentialist theory with the novel Everything I Never Told You,and deeply analyses the dilemma faced by Chinese American families and their pursuit of self-existence in the complex social environment, aiming at revealing the essence of human nature and ultimately pursuing the true value of life. The novel focuses on an ordinary American mixed-race family and reveals the reality profoundly. The paper concludes when human beings are in a difficult situation, they should make positive choices to overcome their fear and disgust of reality, face reality bravely, and have the fighting spirit of never giving up.
