Development of Information and Communication Technologies(ICTs)has brought changes to many industries.including the language service industry. In recent years, more and more technological changes have taken place in the field ofinterpreting.Researchers have started to pay attention to technological development in interpreting, but empirical research on Computer-Aided Interpreting(CAI)is still limited.Based on the previous studies on ICTs in interpreting, this thesis has made a comprehensive review of the history and progress of Computer-Aided Interpreting(CAI)and has conducted empirical research on the impact of CAI tools on interpreting quality.Terminological accuracy has been an important benchmark in interpreting quality assessment.Efficient terminology processing can reduce the cognitive load of interpreters and enhance the overall quality of interpretation. Therefore, the author chooses the CAI terminology management tool InterpretBank as the experimental tool in the empirical study.Based on the quality assessment survey conducted by Zwischenberger(2010),the researcher graded 12 students majoring in interpretation at Xiamen University with regard to their SI quality with the aid of InterpretBank and without. Both terminological quality and overall quality are graded in the experiment and the scores are analyzed together with the results of a post-experiment interview. The following conclusions are drawn from this research:a.the use of InterpretBank in simultaneous interpreting can effectively improve the terminological quality of interpretation;b.the use of InterpretBank in simultaneous interpreting can improve the overall quality of interpretation on the whole.
