This is a practical report on the English-to-Chinese translation based on the children's literature The Five Sisters,an English novel written by Margaret Mahy who is a famous writer of children's literature from New Zealand.The Five Sisters had been published in New Zealand in 1996,and a Chinese version is yet to be published.The author aims to attract the children readers as translation purposes,choosing appropriated translation methods from the perspectives of rhetoric,word,title,and dialogue,with the guidance of the Skopostheory and its three rules:the Skopos Rule,the Coherence Rule,and the Fidelity Rule.This report focuses on the application of Skopostheory rules to addressing the problems in the translation process,taking into consideration the cognitive characteristics of children illustrated by Piaget's theory of cognitive development,so as to produce a readily comprehensible,interesting and normative translation that is in line with children's psychological cognition.It is hoped that this report will shed some light on the application of Skopostheory to the translation of Children's literature and hence provide some insight for researchers and practitioners in this field.This translation report consists of five chapters:the first chapter is an introductory part,offering information about the project background,source,target reader and research significance;the second chapter is the theoretical framework including the Skopostheory and the theory of cognitive development;the third chapter is about the translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation,and review;the fourth chapter is a case analysis focusing on the application of the Skopostheory to overcoming the problems in translation;the last chapter,serving as a conclusion,offers information about the author's reflection on and summary of the translation process.
