An Analysis Of Pipa Music’s Shaping Of Characters’ Images

Mr.Houyuan Wu wrote ’Sue-Feeling the Pipa Xing in Reading Tang Poetry’(hereinafter referred to as ‘Sue’)in 1983,based on the feeling of Juyi Bai’ s long poem ‘Pipa Xing’.It is also the only Pipa solo work by Houyuan Wu in his writing career.Mr.Wu graduated from the Pipa major of the Central Conservatory of Music in his early years.After graduation,he entered the Peking Opera Troupe and worked for years.He had a high level of accomplishment in Peking Opera.In order to further improve his creative level,he studied composing later,so that the music was born.The composer wrote the feeling of reading the poem in musical language.The whole work uses a lot of traditional Chinese opera music elements.It shows the tune and rhyme of traditional Chinese music with pipa.It also carves the characters of Pipa actress and poet Juyi Bai in the well-known long poem Pipa Xing.Starting with this ‘sue’,this paper analyses how Pipa uses music to shape the human characters,combining the elements of opera music,relevant techniques,the second creation of the performance score of Fandi Wang’s ‘Sue’ and the author’s own actual performance experience.
