The Application Of Traditional Pattern In Plane Decoration Design

In the long history of social civilizing development,the appearance of patterns has undoubtedly become a hidden speaker and witness in the development of art and culture.The traditional pattern art has a long history.It has been developed for thousands of years.As early as before the appearance of words and popularization of words,patterns are the means used by people to convey information and to make communication.The patterns on the painted potteries or the carvings on stone walls are not only the earliest decorative art expressing ancient people’s thoughts but also convey information on the development of human culture in a unique existing form.Therefore,the pattern is a silent image form that cannot be ignored for it has a great influence on the development many artistic fields such as calligraphy,painting,design and music and it is one of the most precious cultural heritages for human beings.However,the evolution and protection of traditional patterns have been important issues in people’s attention in recent years.With the changing times,we are staying in a highly informatized and digitalized environment.Science and technology is increasingly updated so that we are dazzled.In the artistic context with global integration,the influx of western artistic thoughts and ideas has made the development of traditional Chinese pattern art face serious challenges.What a way will the traditional pattern art will go in the contemporary times.Inheritance,continuation,development and reconstruction of the Chinese patterns have become the most important issues in research and design.In the current field of graphic design,designers are trying to find a way to reach integration with traditional art.Through decomposition and reconstruction of traditional patterns,combination of traditional art and contemporary design,standing on the basis of traditional cultural elements,adopting the essence of Western art elements and having new artistic thinking and ideas,they have created new works that have a new attitude and a new national feature and stand on the basis of international design and synchronization with the times.The application of traditional patterns in graphic decoration design is based on some elements in traditional pattern art.Through extraction-deconstruction-reconstructing,the design combines the information of the times in contemporary design with traditional elements.In the paper,the elaboration is mainly divided into four parts.The first part is to trace the origin of traditional pattern application in graphic decoration design.The overall idea mainly originates from the "totem worship" in the primitive society.According to the image elements of traditional clan totems and patterned artifacts,the second part mainly extracted traditional symbols and creating techniques.After reading and combing the relevant literature,some elements were selected for integration.In the traditional pattern producing method,bivariate continuity,tetragonal continuity,implied meaning addition and exaggerated deformation are the main creating means.The third part mainly discussed the application of traditional patterns in the creating process of graphic decoration design and the embodiment of practical creation during my study for a master’s degree.From the initial sketch to the modification according to problems encountered in my creating practice,adjustment of the color relationship and completion of the works,the general description of each creating stage of the creating practice was made.The fourth part is the vision on application of traditional patterns in graphic decoration design,significance and influence of traditional pattern art in contemporary design and the prospect of future development.It is also a re-explanation of the traditional cultural elements in my works.
