The scores of reading comprehension account for a large proportion in Chinese test of National College Entrance Examination,so the teaching of reading comprehension in high school is particularly important.According to English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School issued by the Ministry of Education in 2017,the purpose of teaching reading is to guide students how to read effectively,developing good reading habits and also teaching students how to use reading strategies as well as developing students' ability to analyze reading materials.Now high school English teachers pay more attention to reading comprehension and change the previous teaching concept in teaching and advocate the use of various reading strategies in teaching to help improve students' reading efficiency and enhance students' reading competence.However,from the perspective of high school students' learning,their active use of reading strategies is not satisfactory.During the internship of Longquan No.2 High School,the author found that students were having some problems during the reading process.For example,students often complain that they always get stuck when they come across some new words,which will affect their understanding of sentence and general idea of the passage.Especially for students whose grades are below the average,their tolerance of ambiguity for new words is relatively low.According to author's research,some of the new words students faced with are throwaway vocabulary,which does not affect the students' understanding of the reading material.Therefore,in order to focus on the objective of the research,the whole paper is guided by the following two questions:1.What are the different effects of different treatments of throwaway vocabulary on high school students' reading comprehension while students' tolerance of ambiguity is relatively stable?2.What are the factors that may have different effects on reading comprehension of high school students through different treatments of throwaway vocabulary?In order to verify the above two research questions,the author uses SPSS 21.0 and Microsoft office Excel to analyze the data and makes conclusions as follows: the different treatments of throwaway vocabulary did make a significant difference on the reading comprehension of high school students,specifically,students' reading scores and reading speeds are significantly different.The throwaway vocabulary makes the ambiguity of throwaway vocabulary increase greatly.On the contrary,the appropriate treatment of throwaway vocabulary reduces students' ambiguity.Besides,combined with questionnaires and interviews,the author also analyzes the factors for the differences in reading effects.The authors found that students' learning anxiety also affect students' reading performance.Finally,in response to the research questions in this paper,the author also puts forward some suggestions on how to deal with throwaway vocabulary while reading.Because Longquan No.2 High School is different from other regular schools,most of their students have average or poor basic knowledge of English.It is particularly difficult for students to study English.The results of this study hope to help the English reading teaching of Longquan No.2 High School and schools like that,and provide reference to the improvement of students' reading ability.
