| Alice Walker(1944-)is one of the most influential African-American female writers in American literature in the 20 th century.Among her numerous pieces of works in life,The Color Purple has been regarded as the most successful one since it became the bestseller immediately after its publication in 1982,and subsequently,it wins the Pulitzer Prize,the National Prize and the Book Review Association Award in the next year,which are known as three of the top prizes of American literature.The Color Purple applies epistolary novel form which is popular in Europe and interprets a black female Celie’s inner feeling by writing letters to God.By depicting Celie’s spiritual world,Alice Walker shows the dilemma of her spiritual ecology,and deeply analyzes the personal,social,family and other factors that cause the heroine’s spiritual imbalance.Most scholars do researches on the main characters Celie from the perspective of feminism and eco-feminism,which analyze her unfair sufferings under the pressure of politics and social life in the patriarchal society.This paper attempts to analyze the novel from a new aspect to probe into the heroine’s process from spiritual imbalance to spiritual balance.To be specific,this paper elaborates on the basic concepts of spiritual ecology from three aspects: spiritual vacuum,incompetence of behavior and alienation of existence,and makes an in-depth analysis and interpretation of the imbalance and reconstruction of Celie’s spiritual ecology combing with the text.The spiritual ecological imbalance of Celie mainly stems from a series of factors such as patriarchy and racial discrimination.Fortunately,Celie finally completes the reconstruction of spiritual ecology through her sisters’ care,salvation of art,regaining of religious belief and integration with nature.This study has important theoretical significance for solving the spiritual ecological crisis of modern people and building a sustainable and harmonious society. |
