Translation Studies Of Children's Literature From The Perspective Of Imagic Iconicity

Under the background of promoting “Going global” strategy for Chinese culture,excellent children's literature translation helps western children readers understand Chinese culture and the stories of Chinese peers in different cultural background.Children and adults have different cognitive comprehension competence,so children requires a combination of auditory and visual effect for the better and smooth reading experience.Therefore,children's cognitive competence and reading habits should be taken into consideration when it comes to the translation of children's literature.However,there are not many researches on auditory effects and visual effects from the cognitive perspective in the field of children's literature translation.The study of imagic iconicity theory shows that the feature of iconicity exists between the form and content of language playing an important role in the literary translation,which helps to relieve the cognitive burden.Therefore,this thesis selects Cao Wenxuan's Bronze and Sunflower and its English translation as the research object to summarize what the translation strategies and iconicity principles could be used for the realization of auditory and visual effect and better reading experience.The thesis draws a conclusion that on the basis of flexible use of domestication and foreignization along with translation methods of literal translation,free translation,imitation and transliteration,techniques of onomatopoeia,phonaestheme,alliteration,rhyme,rhythm,boldface,uppercase,italics,punctuation,spacing,typography and so on need to be chosen wisely by taking children's cognitive pattern into consideration so as to recreate or produce a new auditory and visual effect.By this means,the achieved visual and auditory aesthetic effect will render a translation suitable to children's cognitive competence and reading habits,helping to introduce more excellent contemporary children's literature translation to the world.
