A Practice Report On The English To Chinese Translation Of The Earth Gazers

This paper is a practical report on the translation of vocabulary and sentences based on the text of early American Aerospace achievements and major events.The Earth Gazers,the latest book published by American writer Christopher Potter,is selected as the translation material,and a consecutive part is selected for translation practice.Based on Functional Equivalence Theory by Eugene Nida and a large number of preliminary preparations and background knowledge,few cases are selected to analyze during the translation,and the key point is to analyze the translation of vocabulary and long difficult sentences.The main purpose of this project is to find out the features of the words and sentences in the text through the translation,and to use the translation knowledge and skills to find suitable translation methods for such texts.Finally,by applying these theories and methods,the author will find effective ways to solve the problems encountered in the process of translation and draw relevant conclusions.Through the translation practice of the texts of aerospace science and technology,the social significance of the project lies in popularizing the public's understanding of American space history and helping the public understand space culture of the United States.Secondly,through this translation practice,the translator will further strengthen the ability of the translation and mastery of scientific and technological texts,and will deal with the problems encountered in the translation of related texts better.At the same time,the translator will improve the ability to apply translation theory and translation skills to practical translation practice so that practice will be better guided by theory and translation skills.Summarizing translation theories and techniques through practice is also the significance of this translation practice.
