Within China, learning an third language is vital for language degree students,as well as those enrolled on a non-language degree course. This is due to English being a compulsory course within China's education system. This compulsory study of English as a second language has given rise to the study of additional languages,in particular the Japanese language,is in the ascendant in our country.Although these three languages are from different language families, there are commonalities and similarities existing between them. This study is based on the phenomenon of lexical transfer in the process of third language acquisition of foreign language students in Southwest University of Political Science and Law,combined with questionnaire survey, based on 11 academic third-year English major postgraduate students from Southwest University of Political Science and Law,by collecting their scores of final Japanese course to analyze its lexical language transfer in details. Moreover,in order to analyze the proficiency of their Japanese language proficiency, the scores of the final exam of the Japanese course will be divided into two groups,higher-level and lower-level to distinguish Japanese lexical acquisition by their score. The major findings show: First of all,L2(English)serves as the main influence in L3 lexical acquisition.Secondly, the position of L2 in TLA is closely related to language distance,L2 is closer to the target language in terms of language families, and the learners are more likely to use L2 in L3 learning. At last,as the learner's L3 level increases, the impact of L2 will decrease. That is,the negative transfer frequency of L3 learners at higher-level will be much lower than that of L3 learners at lower-level.The findings are of great significance in both theory and pedagogy. On the one hand, the research of lexical transfer among Chinese,English and Japanese language acquisition develops and enriches the theory of TLA.On the other hand,in thecontext of positive and negative transfer of TLA,the influence of positive and negative transfer can make a contribution to improve teachers' teaching skills and teaching methods of foreign language teaching.
