With the continuous development of global economic integration,legal exchanges between China and other countries have become more frequent.Consequently,the demand for the translation of legal English has increased a lot.This report is based on a translation project.The source text of this translation project is the fifth chapter of an English book,A Forensic Linguistic Approach to Legal Disclosures.Frequent use of present participle is the characteristic of the legal literature,which emphasizes preciseness and accuracy of the legal language.This translation report presents and describes in detail the characteristics and the application of present participle in the source text.Sentences with present participle,which functions as predicative,attributive and adverbial,are analyzed respectively.Based on the analysis,different translation techniques are proposed consequently.This translation report is hoped to provide some practical suggestions in translation of sentences with present participle in the legal literature,which may facilitate the legal exchanges between China and other countries..
