This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of The Minimalist Home:A Room-by-Room Guide to a Decluttered,Refocused Life(Chapter ? and ?).Based on little things in life, the book aims to explain how to address the whole house and declutter stuff in order to create a desirable living environment, achieve a minimalist life and refocus on one's life pursuit. The translation materials originate from the book review program for CITIC Press Group. From the perspective of the Relevance Theory, the report analyses typical cases in the translation task and further discusses the strategies and methods of the E-C translation of the guidebook text. The report firstly introduces the background of the translation task, the language features of the source text and the structure of the report, and describes the translation process including pre-task preparation, the translating process and the feedback of the translation. This report goes on to make an overview of Relevance Theory and its application in translation practice and research.A detailed analysis of typical cases based on the Relevance Theory is contained in this section, which gives a focus on the E-C translation of metaphorical expressions, sentences, and paragraphs. Finally, the report makes a summary of the whole translation practice.By this translation practice, the author finds that Relevance Theory has significance in guiding the translation of guidebook text.To be specific,“eognitive environment",one of the essential concepts in Relevance Theory, can play an enlightening role in translating some culture-loaded expressions, which requires that the translator consider the cognitive environment of the target readers while choosing translation strategies and methods so as to ensure that the translation can be very understandable to the target readers.
