A Prototype Analysis Of Hero Features:the Influence Of Value Orientation And Self-Construal

In recent years,from General Secretary Xi Jinping's statement that "we need heroes and heroic spirit" to the popular screening of heroic movies,these present situations reflect the urgent need of our country and society,as well as our people for heroes and heroic spirit.However,there have been many debates about the definition of hero.Psychological researchers have not yet reached an agreement on the image of hero,which seriously hinders the development of hero theory and empirical research.Through four sub-studies,this study explores the archetype of hero in the context of Chinese culture,and how value orientation and self-construction influence the individual's judgment of the archetype of hero.In this study,qualitative analysis,questionnaires and experiments were used to draw the following conclusions:(1)This study summarizes the basic characteristics of heroes and distinguishes the archetypal characteristics of heroes.Among them,the most frequently mentioned heroic archetypes are "brave","smart","strong","perseverance","patriotism","kindness" and so on.These archetypal characteristics are consistent with the heroic images we recognize in myths,legends,historical stories,modern deeds and other ways,and basically consistent with the conclusions drawn by foreign studies,which shows that both Chinese and foreign people have similar positive comments on Heroic images.(2)Through exploratory factor analysis,this study divides the hero archetype into three dimensions: loyalty and integrity,thinking ability and strong will.These three dimensions reflect the attitude,ability and will of the hero archetype.(3)This study finds that value orientation has a significant predictive effect on hero archetypal judgment.Individualism value orientation has a significant predictive effect on the thinking ability and strong will dimension of the hero prototype;collectivism value orientation has a significant predictive effect on all three dimensions of the hero prototype,and the predictive effect on loyalty and integrity dimension is the strongest.This shows that the individualist value orientation in the choice of hero prototype,more inclined to the choice of hero's personal potential,that is,the ability and will of heroes.In the selection of hero prototype,the Collectivist Value Orientation pays attention to all aspects of hero,which accords with the consistent pursuit of "perfect" hero by collectivism.(4)Self-construction plays a mediating role in the influence of value orientation on hero's archetypal judgment.Independent self-construction plays a mediating role in the influence of individualism on the thinking ability and strong will dimension of hero archetype,while independent and dependent self-construction plays a mediating role in the influence of collectivism on all three dimensions of hero archetype.(5)Compared with the initiation of collectivism culture,the subjects under the initiation of individualism culture had higher recognition of the thinking ability and strong will dimension of the hero archetype,showing the effect of cultural initiation.This may be due to the current cultural background of collectivism and the social status quo of high acceptance of individualism.
