This study selects Li Jiayun's 1980 version and Zhang Jiangyun's 2006 version of translation. From the perspective of language meta-functions,this study explores how the theory of language meta-functions enlightens translators. The study first analyzes the conceptual function, interpersonal function and textual function of the original text, and then compares the meta-functional equivalence between the two translations and the original text. Finally, the analysis summarizes the reasons why the translation equivalence is not achieved in some examples and how the theory of language meta-functions enlightens translators. The conclusion of this study is that the two versions of translation both have certain mismatches in terms of the three meta-functions,and there are two types of mismatches:for some mismatches, the translator failed to grasp the accurate meaning of the original text;for other mismatches, the translator was intentional to create such mismatches for character shaping, plot development, and target language culture. The latter has a positive influence on translation quality.
