Schema theory can be applied to the process of interpreting. The shortage of schemata is among the most important reasons for bad performance of interpreting.Sometimes, interpreters are not equipped with enough schemata to handle highly professional meetings. Therefore, the significance of full preparation in professional vocabularies and professional theories before interpreting cannot be further stressed,as it makes up for the insufficient existing schemata. The thesis is conducted on the basis of schema theory,so as to emphasize the positive role played by pre-task preparation in the three phases of interpreting, namely listening comprehension, memory and language output. The task will be analyzed to show how the activation of linguistic schemata and content schemata make contributions to ambiguity eraser and anticipation in listening comprehension process, simplification of note-taking and pressure reduction in memory process, word selection and crisis solution in language output process.
