Beijing Forbidden City was listed as the world cultural heritage in 1987,and it has special significance in China and even the world.It is very important for China to carry out popular science education of the Forbidden City in the present time of vigorously promoting the construction of spiritual civilization in China.Many popular science products take the architecture,cultural relics,history and so on of the Palace Museum as the core content,but the plants in the Palace Museum as an important part of the elements of the Palace Museum have not received corresponding attention.Popular science works with the theme of plants in the Forbidden City and especially for children readers are rare in the market.Because of the limitation of children’s cognitive ability,more innovative creative methods are needed.Painting book is an artistic form of combination of illustration and writing,and is also a common way of expression in popular science works.After decades of development,the domestic picture book industry has begun to take shape,but for the original popular science picture book specifically aimed at children readers,the domestic market is still relatively rare,and the most focus on the introduction and re-creation.And On the subject of the Forbidden City plants,few of the creators have interest in it.Therefore,this paper studies the creation method of children’s popular science picture book with the theme of Forbidden City plant,summarizes the design ideas,and carries on the actual creation based on the school-age children’s reading demand condition.To fill the gap of the theme of Forbidden City plants in the children’s popular science book,we hope to give some practical reference to the creators of the children’s popular science picture book.
