The research field of this paper is the theory of composition and composition technique,with the Tehillim(for voices and ensemble or chamber orchestra)written by American composer Steve Reich(1936-)as the research core,and the preliminary discussion on the formation process of composer music's composing language.The main part is divided into two chapters.The first chapter mainly discusses the composer's three important experiences and influences,and the general situation of composition before 1981.The second chapter analyzes the work(Tehillim,1981).Starting from the relationship between lyrics and music,counterpoint technique,harmony configuration,structure and orchestration technique,also include the typical and unique key points of composition.The research shows that the traditional "cannon" processing method is widely used in the music works of Reich,which is the similar as the word "phase" technology.This shows that "minimalist music" is not only a confrontation with the past--those " complicated " prevailing in Europe,but also an inheritance and innovation of cannon music in the Medieval and Renaissance.
