Hong Ying is a representative writer of Overseas Chinese literature. Her novels are notable for the avant-garde feminist gesture, and her writing of Chinese history and the observation of contemporary reality is often contemplative. While focusing on the fate of women, her creation also attempts to show the survival dilemma of the entire human race from a larger pattern. In the past, academic research on Hong Ying’s novels focus on “feminism” and“historical narrative”,there is not much discussion about the issues of “sin” and“redemption” in her writing. This paper attempts to analyze the works of Hong Ying with intensive reading, interpret it from the perspectives of “sin and suffering”,“confession and redemption”,“transcendence and limitations”,and explore her unique personality and thought of creation, and discuss the literary value of her novels in the historical context of contemporary literature. In the part of introduction, the author gives a general introduction of Hong Ying’s personal experience and the process of creation, and summarizes the studies on Hong Ying’s novels by critics. The Subject is analyzed and discussed from the following aspects:Chapter One starts from the perspective of cause of dilemma, taking “sin” and“suffering” as the starting point,to explore Hong Ying’s writing and interpretation of the paradoxical survival dilemma that human race encounters through the analysis of dialectical relationships between “sin” and “suffering”.In the view of Hong Ying, the“sin” of human race is the cause of their sufferings, however, thinking backwards, suffering will also breed sin and aggravate the survival dilemma.Chapter Two discovers Hong Ying’s exploration of the methods to solve the survival dilemma from the perspective of “confession” and “redemption”.In her view, the survival dilemma can be solved gradually from three levels---“admitting suffering and mourning life”,“incriminating confession”,and then “reborn in love andforgiveness”.From passive bearing to active admitting, people will gradually take control of their life and find a path to light in the dilemma.Chapter Three evaluates Hong Ying’s writing of dilemma dialectically.Firstly, base on the autobiographical characteristics of Hong Ying’s novels, the author will discover the connection between her personal experience and her writing of dilemma, and elaborate the merits and demerits of this method of creation.Secondly, the author will discuss the relationship between the writing of “sin” and “redemption” in Hong Ying’s novels and the development of contemporary literature under the vision of modern and contemporary Chinese literature, and point out its special and inadequacies.Thirdly, the author will demonstrate several problems of her writing of women’s dilemma from the perspective of feminism. In the Conclusion, the author will conclude the whole article in an attempt to construct Hong Ying’s position in the contemporary literary world and the literary significance of her creation, although she is still at the edge of the contemporary literary world to some extent,it is undeniable that she has enriched the creative experience of contemporary literature, and her works are of great significance and value in reflecting Chinese history and reality.
