Due to the pursuit of defamiliarization effects,literary works often choose foregrounding to achieve specific aesthetic and thematic goals.During the translation of literary works,in addition to translating basic information,such as the original content,the translator also needs to identify its style,including the unique language form and the functions behind it,thus reproducing the foregrounding effect of the original text.Therefore,the translation of foregrounding is crucial to reflect the style of the original text.The translator chooses to use the foregrounding theory of Leech to analyze the translation of the first three chapters of The Turner House.This novel creates a number of distinctive characters,owns a prominent language style and contains a lot of foreground expressions.Therefore,the translator chose to discuss the foregrounding theory and illustrate how,with this theory,the translation can be closer to the style of the original text.The translator adopts Leech's typology for foregrounding,which classifies foregrounding into deviation and parallelism.Besides,deviation includes discoursal deviation,semantic deviation,lexical deviation,grammatical deviation,and graphological deviation.On the basis of this classification and the particularity of the original text,the translator details five categories,i.e.,semantic deviation,lexical deviation,grammatical deviation,graphological deviation,and parallelism.Meanwhile,the translator also analyzes different cases and provides corresponding translation strategies to get closer to the style of the original text.This report combines the foregrounding theory with the original text to propose specific translation strategies and methods.There are no clear strategies and patterns for the translation of foregrounding.Therefore,the translator hopes to provide some ideas for the translation of foregrounding in literary works.
