When people learn a foreign language,they often give themselves a foreign language name.When they are in the target language country,foreign language names are conducive to cross-cultural communication and cross-cultural adaptation.However,not all Chinese learners have the opportunity to come to China.Most Chinese learners will study in their own country in Confucius Institute or Chinese training institutions.These Chinese learners'Chinese names come from complex sources and have prominent characteristics.Studying the Chinese names of these overseas Chinese learners is a good way to know the attitude of the learners towards Chinese culture.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter mainly clarifies the significance of this study,research methods and reviews the relevant literature.The second chapter quantifies the Chinese names of Chinese learners from European countries,summarizes the characteristics of Chinese learners' Chinese names in pronunciation,use of words and other aspects,as well as the existing questions.Chapter three focuses on the difference analysis,comparing the similarities and differences of Chinese names of Chinese learners from different sources and different countries.Chapter four analyses the attitude of European Chinese learners towards Chinese names,mainly including the understanding,satisfaction and acceptance of Chinese names by European Chinese learners.The fifth chapter is to put forward some suggestions for the optimization of European Chinese learners' Chinese names on the basis of the previous analysis.This paper finds that:(1)The phonetic characteristics of Chinese names of European Chinese learners are as follows:firstly,single first name plus single two-syllable given name is dominant;secondly,male names end with larger opening vowels,while female names end with smaller opening vowels.At the same time,there are also some phonetic problems,such as reduplicated names;in addition,when naming students,we should pay attention to avoid ambiguities caused by the homophonic name which will cause unnecessary troubles.2)The characteristics of Chinese names used by European Chinese learners are as follows:firstly,most of the Chinese names used by European Chinese learners are transliterated;secondly,Chinese names used by European Chinese learners are of rich types and good meanings,which conform to the Chinese habit of selecting words for names;thirdly,among homonyms,Chinese characters with simpler fonts or better meanings have a higher usage rate.The main problems in the use of words are the use of some not commonly uesd words.3)The phonological and semantic characteristics of Chinese names of European Chinese learners are as follows:Chinese names of European Chinese learners are closely related to the pronunciation and meaning of their mother tongue names.Among them,on the basis of transliteration,two or three characters are used as the format to select common Chinese names and to reflect their personal characteristics or Chinese cultural.However,there are also some problems in the relationship between sound and meaning,such as names that do not conform to Chinese naming methods and translated names that do not have cultural connotations.
