Information loss in interpreting directly affects the interpreting quality and the interpreter's confidence, and even impacts subsequent interpreting practices.Previous studies on information loss in the interpreting process have focused on either simultaneous interpreting or.specific layers, while information loss in consecutive interpreting in a general perspective has been neglected. This practice report is thus designed to address the following two questions:(1)What are the reasons for information loss in the consecutive interpreting?(2)What coping tactics can interpreters use to compensate for information loss? The Interpretive Theory of Translation and the Effort Model of Consecutive Interpreting are taken as the research framework, with examples from the recording of consecutive interpreting practice of the lecture "Modernization of the National Governance System and Governance Capacity in the New Era".The research results show that information loss is caused by various factors.Difficult words and complicated sentence structures are the top difficulties for interpreters.Other factors include the intensive flow of information, the speaker speaking too fast or repeating similar sentences or with unfamiliar accents and so on.Therefore, interpreters need to apply certain coping tactics to compensate for information loss, such as omission, simplification, summarization, explanation and interpreting with visual aids. This research has vital significance both in theory and in practice. It will enrich the information compensation mechanism in consecutive interpreting.Meanwhile,it can provide enlightenment for interpreting teaching and help students to strengthen skills in interpreting practice.
